Branching Out Arboreal & Native Plant Specialists wants this website to work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or need larger text and stronger contrast.

What we aim for

This site is built to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard most commonly referenced for public websites in the United States.

What that means here

Every page works without a mouse, and the keyboard focus outline stays visible as you move through the page.
Text meets the contrast levels the guidelines ask for, including headings, links and buttons.
Photographs carry text descriptions, and decorative images are marked so screen readers skip past them.
Headings run in a proper order, so a screen reader can jump between sections instead of reading the whole page.
Nothing pops up, plays on its own, or moves without you asking.
Text stays readable when you zoom in, and the layout reflows on a phone instead of scrolling sideways.
The contact form labels every field, so it can be filled in by voice or by keyboard.

We do not use an accessibility overlay or pop-up accessibility widget. Those tools are widely reported to interfere with the screen readers and browser settings people already use, so we would rather build the pages properly.
